„IPEO Platform – Intelligent Platform for Renewable Energy”
Krajowe Centrum Danych Otwartych has secured funding in a competition organized by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) as part of the first call for applications for the SMART 1 Path for SMEs.
The SMART Path is one of the main initiatives implemented under the European Funds for Modern Economy 2021-2027 Program (FENG).
Project number: FENG.01.01-IP.02-0084/23
The project aims to conduct industrial research and development work to create an Intelligent Platform for Renewable Energy (IPEO), which will accelerate the energy transition process by, among other things, selecting and recommending sites for investments in various types of renewable energy sources such as onshore wind and solar energy.
The IPEO Platform will serve four stakeholder groups:
- Individuals
- Businesses, including renewable energy investors, foreign investors, and energy-intensive industries
- Municipalities
- Energy clusters and cooperatives
IPEO will expedite decision-making based on a data-driven business model for renewable energy investments.
The R&D module will develop an innovative decision-making algorithm and recommendation model enhanced with machine learning solutions, which will ultimately be tested on a group of selected recipients.
The solution will be based on proprietary technology for processing large spatial datasets using deep-data lakes. As a result, the IPEO platform will provide numerical and audited information on locations, business needs, values, and service provider capabilities, enabling acceleration of energy transition processes. An important aspect of the platform will be ensuring user data security.
IPEO will lead to a change in approach (transformation at least at the national level) to the use of innovative IT tools with big data processing and machine learning. The project implementation will lower the barrier to acquiring knowledge that is difficult to obtain in a short time, providing scenarios for, among others, precise large-scale searches for more optimal areas and locations for renewable energy, vehicle charging stations, energy storage, and others, taking into account the needs of a given stakeholder group.
The intelligent platform for renewable energy with a recommendation engine will be a valuable tool operating at the level of businesses, local governments, local communities, and private landowners such as farmers and parishes, which will help locate the best areas for various renewable energy infrastructures (including onshore wind, solar, BESS, hybrid installations) and find suitable business partners to accelerate the energy transition.
Additionally, tasks in the Internationalization module will be carried out to widely disseminate the project results. After successful product commercialization in Poland, further development and adaptation to European market requirements are planned. Presentation of project results at European conferences will ensure further platform development. The competence module includes training for company employees to enhance their qualifications in innovation management and R&D results commercialization. The applicant plans training to improve the qualifications and effectiveness of the sales department, a comprehensive training package for the IT department and Data Scientists in artificial intelligence and data visualization, enhancing programming competencies, training in creative thinking, and innovative product management.
